GridSix Lost in a sea of social bookmark sites?

With all the social bookmarking sites out there, I must say that I'm a bit overwhelmed. I've been trying to get the word out about my new tech blog, and have had some success with Digg and a few others. By my last estimate, I'm a member of 10+ bookmarking sites, and it's getting tough to keep them all updated. If there was a site or service that would allow me to submit bookmarks automatically, and digg/vote/stumble… Continue

ToeCracker Diggstapo . . . The Term for Social Media's Gestapo Called www.Digg.com

Wikipedia has a meaning for Gestapo Tactics and I have now termed a meaning for Diggstapo Tactics. Before I reveal this to you . . . a little of ToeCracker's Digg History. I joined digg in July 2007 and started to become an avid user in late November, digging around 300 stories per day, supporting my friends submissions, commenting and getting front pages stories . . . after making a shit load of mistakes etc. Digg became like a drug, an addiction to the point, where yes, I was a diggaholic un… Continue

Mo Digg let me down... and let down thousands of others

There is always a moment in your life where someone or something lets you down in one way or another. Let me tell you about me. I am nice, I am kind, I am a supporter of friends in Social media. I am a previous daycare provider, I am a wife, mother and Democrat. I got into social media because I thought I could try to make a difference. It has taken me a while to understand how social media and networking work. It has taken a lot of my time and energy to find the places I thought I belonged.… Continue

J.D. Rucker Where to Post for Digg Blog Day

Digg Blog Day is about to start, but we have had a lot of feedback that some are concerned about attaching their blog and/or name to the posts for fear of retaliation by Digg. That in itself is a statement of the sad state that Digg has put itself in with its users, but that will be covered in blog posts. It is best to post to… Continue

J.D. Rucker Time to Act: Call for Blog Posts About Digg 10-12-2008

People are scared. Angry. Confused. Users are getting banned and there seems to be very little chance that they will get unbanned. The recommendation engine has limits now. The quality of the front page has been questionable at best. It's time to act. On Sunday, October 12, we are asking for blog posts. Digg and the media has a tendency to ignore individual posts, but how can they ignore 10? 20? 50? 100? If you have a blog and an opinion about Digg, we are asking for you to: 1) Post on your… Continue

polymath22 What to do when you are banned from digg.

According to this blog by zaibatsu, digg.com has been busy again banning many of their top users, under the short-sighted business model that is "Our web site should be worth $300,000,000".

Thats quite a bit of money for a web site that doesn't actually produce anything.

J.D. Rucker Articles on the Recent Digg Bans and an Interview with Zaibatsu

I've been writing furiously since Reg was banned. One such story will be published tomorrow in an undisclosed (at this time) site and will include an interview with "The Man". Otherwise, here's one on some good things happening at Digg and one on some bad things happening there. Take a look at your leisure. Zaibatsu I Was Banned From Digg and For a Pretty Lame Reason

I had linked directly to the pictures of the digg user on her site. However the site owner apparently redirected the site to a spam site after my initial post. Here's the full text of the e-mail from Digg and my response: Hello R.J., Thanks for contacting us at Digg.com. At this time, we are unable to remove the ban on your account. --Digg Support On Sep 19, 2008, at 11:59 AM, R.J. J.D. Rucker Top 10 Digg Users up to 36.8% of Front Page

Just a quick FYI. We were tracking the Digg front page over at popFAIL last month and it drew a lot of controversy for being at 31% at the time. Now, we're up to nearly 37%. At one point, it was close to 50%, but it seems that the Digg algorithm has made some adjustments. This is good, but more work needs to be done. Continue

J.D. Rucker Call for Contributors to popFAIL

Greetings to all! As we all know, social media sites, Digg in particular, can be very fickle. Some of the stories that hit the front page have no business being there, while other great stories that don't hit the front page are awesome, but for whatever reason just didn't make it. popFAIL is a blog that is dedicated to highlighting some of the stories that didn't make it, but should have. If you have an eye for content and a desire to put a minuscule spotlight o… Continue

J.D. Rucker Top 10 Topics to be Discussed at the First Digg Town Hall Meeting

The first Digg Town Hall Meeting is on Monday, February 25th. It will be held on ustream.tv. On the Digg blog, Kevin Rose said in this post that the topics to be discussed would be determined by the users through comments on this digg submission about the post. He asked for digging and burying of relevant topics, so we can assume that the ones with the most diggs wi… Continue

1only Digg vs Stumble: Which takes more of your time?

Just curious. I used to spend a ton of time on Digg. Two or three hours a day, actually. I was banned from Digg, and it was probably the best thing that could have happened to me from a social media perspective. I was forced to check out StumbleUpon and I haven't looked back. For those who still play on both fields, which takes more of your time. Do you digg a lot and stumble a little, stumble a lot and digg a little, or split time between the two? Continue

J.D. Rucker Calling all Bloggers and those with Thoughts on Digg

Preparing for the Digg Town Hall Meeting This could easily be posted in the various Digg groups, but I wanted to post it here first, then link to the post from the groups, just to get maximum exposure. The 1st Digg Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for February 25th. Just before its official announcement, several bloggers were planning on posting different posts on their blogs, all in a short time frame, that discussed various topics of Digg that needed to be fixed. Right as… Continue
