ning has a few problems and i think friendfeed may be able to provide the solution.
first, there are well over 200,000 ning sites created, but not enough members to keep many small ning sites new, fresh, relavent, and sustainable. it seems that many people are reluctant to join their first ning site, but once they join one, they are more likely to join others. So, you have a situation where ning network creators jo…
Digg competitor Mixx just launched an extension to its groups feature that founder Chris McGill describes as “Ning for social media”.

Greetings to all! As we all know, social media sites, Digg in particular, can be very fickle. Some of the stories that hit the front page have no business being there, while other great stories that don't hit the front page are awesome, but for whatever reason just didn't make it.
popFAIL is a blog that is dedicated to highlighting some of the stories that didn't make it, but should have. If you have an eye for content and a desire to put a minuscule spotlight o… Continue
Next week is the 2nd Digg Town Hall meeting.
What do you want to see discussed?
What do you think will happen?
Why aren't you wearing pants?
These issues and more can be discussed in the thread we just started to talk about the next town hall meeting.
Never go to a town hall meeting unorganized. Start talking now about issues you want to bring to the Digg staff. Continue
I'm back from a quick vacation (hey, I needed it).

This results from this form will be sent to the highest up person at Mixx.com that we can shake down.
Hopefully we will have a live chat soon to discuss this and all other things that we love to geek out about. Continue
I just came across this site, and started poking around a bit. It looks kind of like a delicious, stumbleupon type service that will let me bookmark different pages/sites but then also interact with other users (sound familiar? :) )
Anyways, does anyone else use this service or has anyone else already tried it out? It looks like its up and coming, per compete, though Newsweek reported last summer that mister-wong's traffi… Continue

One possible vision of Social News Central is a wandering tribe of social media people - swarming into different sites (smaller and niche social media sites) with every intention to leave them sprinkled with ideas about how to expand and improve.
Through this site we can democratically nominate sites that we think are trying to provide a good service and agree, as a community, to take a close look at their site for 2-3 days and collect our suggestions on how it can improve so the site owner can… Continue

I'm sure every geek is familiar with the can-you-fix-my-computer scenario where a non-geek will hand over their PC for you to fix while swearing they haven't been on every single warez and super freaky pr0n site on the net. You know the box that has so much malware on it that every other computer in your house runs and hides under the bed when you walk in the door with it.
I have a plan to use that scenario to cull the bot herds.
When someone requests your friendly helpful service in fixing th… Continue

Richard (a member here at Social News Central) has a good follow up on ReadWriteWeb about Yahoo Buzz. I say "follow up" because Muhammed Saleem (a trusted friend and social news expert) wrote the first review of it.
But -- As smart as Richard and Mu are - I'm sure they would admit - our collective of 200+ social media junkies would have some interesting insight that they would value.

Been really, really busy lately, but I am trying to get back into the swing of things. Unfortunately (well not really), I spent five days at SXSW and am now entirely inundated with new sites to check out. I'm not sure I can keep track of all the social media sites popping up. I'm still behind on some of the majors. Be looking for a blog from me in the next few weeks or so. Hopefully things will slow down enough for me to rock one out. By the way, if anyone ever has the opportunity to attend SXSW… Continue
I really would like some feedback from as many of you as possible if you have the time to sign up and take a spin at Subbitt.com.
Here's a few tips to get you started:
You're permissions will initially be limited to voting until your karma level reaches the point that the SUBMIT NEW button pops up on the categories bar. You will then be able to submit a new story, or more if you have enough karma. As your story gets voted up, your karma cost for postig will rea… Continue

As Web 2.0 becomes less of just a buzzword and more of a
reality, the types of sites webmasters need to publish will
increasingly become more important. In other words,
mini-sites are slowly dying and cookie-cutter article sites
are on the way out as well. Web surfers will become more
value-focused and web companies will become larger.
Over the next few years expect larger conglomerates to be
buying up profitable websites in their chosen markets.
Expect smaller sites to either be bought or driv… Continue

Just wanted to drop a note and say that SUBBITT.com is up, running, and growing! There's still a bit of cosmetic work for various pages to be worked (I have a love/hate relationship with multiple CSS sheets 8P). Feedback has been very positive, and I wanted to give a big thanks to all the early adaptors that have stuck with it as features were developed, tested, and implemented. More features, functions, and other nifty things will be added, as our platform is built to be evolutionary as the nee… Continue

I got my first chance to turn down an offer to use my "social media networking skills" today. And I didn't even get as far as negotiating the pay.
The bizzare part is that the site they wanted to promote could realistically stand on its own (and don't ask what it is cause I ain't telling). I think a little word of mouth and a touch of linkbait and it would be off and running.
I don't quite understand why a site would risk their reputation doing this stuff, but I wasn't about to risk mine with th… Continue
The first Digg Town Hall Meeting is on Monday, February 25th. It will be held on ustream.tv.

Do you have a blog? Maybe you contribute to one or more? We want to know.
Just like social media, blogging is a way for the people to have an influence on the world around them. Even if it's just a personal blog that talks about an interest of yours or a place to rant about things you want to rant about, your blog has the potential to touch others in some way.
If you have a blog, please list it here if you are interested in sharing. Feel free to tell us anything you want about it -- simply pos… Continue
Just curious. I used to spend a ton of time on Digg. Two or three hours a day, actually. I was banned from Digg, and it was probably the best thing that could have happened to me from a social media perspective. I was forced to check out StumbleUpon and I haven't looked back.
For those who still play on both fields, which takes more of your time. Do you digg a lot and stumble a little, stumble a lot and digg a little, or split time between the two? Continue

Preparing for the Digg Town Hall Meeting
This could easily be posted in the various Digg groups, but I wanted to post it here first, then link to the post from the groups, just to get maximum exposure.
The 1st Digg Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for February 25th. Just before its official announcement, several bloggers were planning on posting different posts on their blogs, all in a short time frame, that discussed various topics of Digg that needed to be fixed. Right as… Continue

Listen to find out a little more about how J.D. and I imagine this space - and what our next steps will be. The important thing to note: You will all play a part in it.

challenging as it is today. Creative, robust and extensive advertising
initiatives are required to ensure your online success.
Hiring a directory submission service has proven to be effective in driving traffic to websites and enhancing your overall search engine rankings. In fact, this step is criti…
