Mixx Gets Serious About Community Building

Digg competitor Mixx just launched an extension to its groups feature that founder Chris McGill describes as “Ning for social media”.

More at TechCrunch.

This is something I've always wanted to see happen. I've been critical of Mixx in the past - but have to give it Kudos right now.

I'm back from a quick vacation (hey, I needed it).

I have checked out the responses re: Mixx.com - and soon I am going to contact the head of Mixx to hand them over.

Hey, only just noticed your message. To answer your question, your right I've been much less active on social news sites of late. I've more or less abandoned Digg, which happened progressively around the time that WSJ article "Wizards Of Buzz" was published. Digg began taking steps that I didn't agree with and top users and new users alike began gaming the system more than ever before ruining the quality of content on the site, which was my primary reason for joining Digg when it launched in Beta.

For around 2 years after I stopped contributing to Digg, I virtually abandoned almost all the social media sites I used mostly because I was really focused on my studies and also spending most of my free time working with political organizations or drinking with friends.

Past 6 months or so though, I've slowly been coming back to several social media sites. I've been using Reddit a lot lately (reminds me of the good early days of Digg), and just started using Twitter again now that I'm finding uses for it. I'm slowly returning to the social media scene again.

Anyways, what about you? What have you been up to lately?
